Christmas Wrapping Message posted on 12/26/06, 1:32 PM by Scott Lithgows of Glasgow, Scotland e-mail
Thankfully as usual the Scots and British radio stations played the Waitresses throughout December, not bad for a song that never made the charts but has outlived many xmas songs that did. However its lack of a promo video see,s it ignored on MTV and VH1 top 40 xmas songs, surely a video could be made up to celebrate it,s 25th year and keep the song in the limelight for the next 25years. ps great site.

HEY CHRIS BUTLER!!! When will we FINALLY have "Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful" on CD? It's like the best album EVER! My album is seriously getting worn out. Please, please, please!!! Sincerely, Paul Barnes "Found a cure for hunger yet? Black coffee. Cigarettes!"

Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of Patty Donahue's tragic early death. She was a particularly strong and interesting character in pop music history, and I think that she had more impact than she probably realized. The Waitresses were more than "one hit wonder": they made intelligent, sophisticated and most importantly FUN music that continues to be enjoyed today. I spent a good part of the evening dancing about my house to their King Biscuit Flower Hour live show, enjoying Patty's strong and sassy vibe. You rocked, grrl! Rest in Peace.

The Waitresses Could Rule the World... Message posted on 9/3/06, 3:21 AM by Greg of Boston, USA e-mail
Thanks for putting up this site. It's excellent. A fine tribute to an underrated band. I only own the Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful? LP and the I Could Rule the World if I Could Only Get the Parts EP which I've had since the early 80s...Needless to say, the LP is a classic and should (if it's not already) be "immortalized" on CD format. I first discovered the music of the Waitresses when I was just a pre-teen and just beginning to discover the whole punk and new wave thing. These guys (and gals) were one of the most unique sounding bands going at the time. And "I Know What Boys Like" was not their greatest song- I think everything else on the first LP was actually better than it! Yes, it is THAT good of an album. Sad to hear about Pat Donahue-
a great front woman with a style all her own. Long Live the Waitresses!

Chestnut Cabaret Message posted on 7/30/06, 5:23 AM by Steve Harvey of Aston, USofyeahyeahyeah e-mail
When the Waitresses were touring I was writing for Fine Times out of Wilmington. Since Billy Ficca was from our town I got the editor to go along with a piece (which I have somewhere). I remember I did tape the show, but it was pretty crappy compared to other shows I taped at the Chestnut Cabaret. Interview Patty after the show and the whole band was very friendly, kind of "gee, glad you're interested in us". Anyway just saw Ms. Wormworth in a bass magazine at Borders. Good to see her after so many years.

It's funny that as big as "I Know What Boys Like" was the Waitresses will probably be remember more for "Christmas Wrapping". A clever tune that works. Usually Christmas tunes are throwaways. With Patty gone the tune has just that slight touch of nostalgia every Christmas that they play it on the radio.

One of My Favorite New Wave Bands Message posted on 7/1/06, 7:16 PM by DaVon Walker of Hialeah, United States e-mail
I first heard of the Waitresses after watching that VH1 special "100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders". Their only hit "I Know What Boys Like" is what turned me on to their music and influenced me into ordering and buying one of their compilation albums. They really were/are a great but underrated band. They're one of those acts whose music is refreshing and much better than most of the mainstream stuff played on the radio these days. If I ever were to become a rock recording artist, the Waitresses would definitely be one of my major influences. I detest what happened to Patty, because I can't help thinking and wondering about what could've been if only there were a Waitresses reunion and I'm sorry that she's no longer here. Would've been great, definitely one of the best new wave bands ever.

Tonight on a local cable show called drinking with bob. (See his rants at drinkingwithbob.blogspot.com)he used "Wasn't tomorrow wonderful?" in a skit. Since I owned that record and burnt it out, I decided to see what was available on CD.
I saw the waitresses at my college in 1985 along with Stevie Ray Vaughn on the same stage. Both were very memorable in their own right. I feel very lucky to have seen them both.

Glad there is this site to check out. I just started listening to "Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful" today, which came out in 1982. I forgot that they did the song "I Know What Boys Like" This is a good album which I have on cassette tape and fun to listen to in the car. Thanks for the site.

I Just Saw I Know What Boys Like Message posted on 6/17/06, 8:57 PM by Mike of Brisbane, Australia e-mail
I just taped I Know What Boys Like, with Patty smoking and got on the net to read something about the band (thank above for it). I was shocked to find out what happened to her, but we must remember the great songs that the band had. Along with Superfreak by Rick James, these songs summed up the American new wave 80's scene very well. Thank you to the band - reform perhaps???? Great Site too, as Wikipedia is fantastic, but your site is more personal. Again thanks - you know what Waitresses fans like :)

Holy Crap! That damn song "I Know What Boys Like" reminds me of everthing I hated about the 80's! (Believe it or not, there WERE actually girls who behaved like the character in the song). BUT, strictly from a music point of view, the band rocked. Anyway "Christmas Wrapping" makes up for "...Boys". The songs are still fun to listen to and it's a shame about Patty. Great site for an underappreciated band.

The Waitresses were an excellent band. I remember them very well from "I Know What Boys Like", and followed their career from there. Very smartly written songs, cleverly performed...I wish they had had bigger success in the US but I suspect they were too good for that :-(
But thank you for putting this site together. They deserve it and it's to your credit that you honored them this way.

Growing up in the 80s, I've always been aware of the waitresses. Maybe it was the Square Pegs theme from the SJP TV show, or maybe the light radio play of I Know What Boys Like. I recently stumbled across The Best of the Waitresses CD on iTunes. It's amazing music. The lyrics are brilliant and the music is right up there with Blondie and the other greats of the era. Brilliant!

Christmas Wrapping and Patty Message posted on 12/24/05, 11:09 AM by Ivan Thomasz of Singapore, Singapore e-mail
Hi, stumbled upon your very nice site while I was browsing for some info on "Christmas Wrapping" by the Waitresses. I've like the Waitresses ever since I heard "I Know What Boys Like" but it's a real shame that they don't even get any airplay these days on Singapore's only so-called classic hits station. Was very sad to hear that Patty died so young. But you can be sure her spirit lives on whenever a Waitresses song fills the air ... and not only in Christmas!

As I am now in my early 30s I often get reminiscent of time gone by. The summer before 6th grade I saw The Waitresses in the MAKE THE WEATHER video and later that year I saw their BOYS video. I thought Patty was wild! Such a cool chick. I miss the 80s. I knew someone about 12 years ago who swears he was in a hospital and the former lead singer of The Waitresses was his nurse. Interesting huh? Nice site, please keep it up!

It is really cool you have this site. I first heard the Waitresses in some crappy teen sex movie "The Last American Virgin". The song was "I Know What Boys Like", of course, and I loved the song, though I hated the movie. I watched Square Pegs all the time too. I play in a bar band (rachelshippo.com) doing lots of 80's pop covers now. I'm going to try to talk them into doing a Waitresses song. It was nice to see the videos and pics. Thanks.

Have you ever thought about doing a musical. Your music reminds me of HAIR or RENT. You've already have all the songs just write a story line to tie it all together.

I'd buy a ticket.

Anyone heard the Shampoo cover of "..boys want"? They ruined it with their euro pop beats and grotesque orchestral hit keyboards. Almost as if they edited out all the sex. I love Shampoo tho. don't get me wrong.

I can rememeber interviewing Patty and the band backstage at the Chestnut Cabaret for Fine Times (out of Wilmington, DE). Billy Ficca was a local boy made good, but seems to have disappeared. Nice bunch of people. "Christmas Wrapping" holds up after all these years. And this is coming from someone who's never been wild about Christmas music. Somewhere I have some shots of me talking to band.

What can be said about the Waitresses? A staple of pop 80's music culture. I remember watching the 'I know What Boy's Like' video on MTV and hearing all the latest news about the band from Alan Hunter, I remember Square Pegs and the episode they appeared in, and of course hearing them every Christmas on the radio. They have definitely left their mark. Good job on the website! Hope it continues to grow with more goodies on the band.

"Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful" was the first LP I ever bought (at the tender age of 15) - and I"m still listening to it! (Although, as others have expressed here, it really should be released on CD.) And as for "Square Pegs" ... well, that helped me get through high school. It really meant something listening to the Waitresses back then - and it still does. A big "Hi" to all other Waitresses fans out there. I'm sure you all understand what I'm talking about.
